How do I get started?
Our club holds introductory fencing lessons monthly starting on the first Monday of every month. The intro course is $75 for a series of four lessons, and the club does not charge yearly membership fees or equipment fees.
-
Introductory classes are held on Monday evenings. Regular member practices are held Monday and Wednesday evenings. Lessons are an hour long and start at 6 pm. Open fencing then starts at 7.
-
Yes, unfortunately we have an age requirement of 12 years, due to practical limitations.
-
Loaner gear is provided while you're seeing if this sport is a fit for you or your child. The loaner equipment will continue to be available after completing the beginner lessons.
Whenever you decide you’re ready, we can assist in your purchase with fitting, vendor options, and selection. A full set of essentials is typically about $200.
Fencers have the options of independently choosing a vendor or purchasing through the club to take advantage of our discounts. Wherever possible we combine member’s orders to save on shipping costs. We make no profit on equipment sales, unlike other clubs.
-
Our club consists primarily of casual, recreational fencers, and the structure of our classes reflect that. Competitive participation or intent is not a prerequisite of membership.
For members who may later be curious about competing, we regularly host local tournaments with events catered to beginners and others which draw participation from the entire Oklahoma Division of fencing clubs and from clubs out of state.
-
Intro students wanting to continue fencing should enroll in our group lessons to continue their study. The sign-up form is on the main webpage and is much shorter to fill. Fencers can attend both Mondays and Wednesdays and will also have access to the open fencing period between 7 pm and close.
Fencers who would like to forgo lessons and participate in just the open fencing can do so by paying a very reasonable floor fee.
