This is a battery suitable to replace ones found in Favero’s FA-15/FA-07 scoring machine remotes, for purchase and delivery to your fencing club. Please e-mail to inquire about lead times.

Favero’s battery consists entirely of off-the-shelf components, and so a sufficiently frugal and technically capable user may opt to source the parts themselves and assemble it. If you’d prefer to do so rather than purchasing from us, for your convenience these components are listed here:

1. One 14430 lithium-ion battery, 3.7V. Favero uses a 600 mAh capacity battery, the one we supply is 650 mAh. “14430” refers to the physical dimensions of the battery; 14mm in diameter, 43 mm in length. This is equivalent (in size only!) to the diameter of a standard AA battery.

2. One round battery protection board, 3.7V 2.5A 1S. The board is designed for use with a single cell in series (1S) at 3.7 volts, limits current to 2.5 amps, and protects the battery from overcharging and overdischarging. Favero uses a battery protection board with a round profile, as the circuit board inside of the remote has a cutout made to fit it and the battery. The round profile isn’t strictly essential as there is sufficient extra space in the remote to fit the more conventional rectangular profile. A sufficiently risk-tolerant user may opt to omit this battery protection board and still have the remote transmit when properly assembled.

3. 3mm nickel strips. One end is welded to the battery’s terminals and the other welded to the battery protection board.

4. 24 AWG stranded copper wire, insulated in red and black for positive and negative connections, respectively. One end is soldered to the appropriate ± pads of the battery protection board, the other terminates with a receptacle which plugs into the connector housing soldered to the remote’s circuit board.

5. One connector receptacle and associated contacts. Favero uses a connector from TE Connectivity, product number 280358. The housing is soldered to the remote’s circuit board, so only the receptacle (the plug-looking thing) is needed, along with two metal connector contacts which are crimped to the copper wires and then inserted into the receptacle.
